- TerrainSculpt
-
- With this program it is possible to model fractal mountain ranges. The
- model can be saved as a scene, which you can read with the Ray-Tracing
- program SCULPT-3D. (The format is the IFF-file format SA3D).
-
- Modelling:
-
- What you see is a grid, which represents the height map of the mountain
- range. Left of the grid you see a color table, each color identifying a
- certain height (Blue is water, brown is rock. How darker the color, the
- larger the height.) With the mouse you can make a rough model of the
- mountain range. To do this move the mouse pointer to a square on the
- grid and click on a mouse button. This way you can increase or decrease
- the height of the grid element.
-
- After you have completed the modelling you can tell the computer to
- generate the complete mountain range. The computer does this with an
- algoritm from the book 'The Science of Fractals'. (Editors Peitgen &
- Saupe).
- With some options you can get a great variaity:
-
- VARIATION : Measure of roughness.
- RASTER : Width of the model grid.
- (And shows the grid after the rendering)
- ANGLE : ViewAngle on the rendered mountain range.
- SIZE : Size of the rendered mountain.
- (When you want to use the model in SCULPT select a
- low value, it consumes a lot of memory.)
-
- Clear : Clear the grid.
- To Sculpt : Save the mountain range as SCULPT scene.
- The file is saved in the directory scene.
- Render : Generation of a 3D view of the
- mountain. For each step in the generation process,
- the height map is shown.
-
- Make sure that you have installed the directory scene and the math
- libraries, otherwise the program won't run.
